I don't know much about the music industry, but also I've never heard many good things about it from the artists that get involved with it. Right now a lot of drama has been sparking between Taylor Swift and her former record label Big Machine, and doesn't look like it's resolving any time soon... Here's what's happening.
Not too long ago Taylor Swift made a post about her AMA issue with Big Machine, which recently bought most of her music catalog. Taylor was ready to perform a medley at the AMA's while being honored as the "Artist of the Decade," but she posted that the label wouldn't allow her to perform any of her old music since they own it now. Without any more options left in negotiating Taylor asked her fans for her help, and it finally got us a response from the label.
This weekend Big Machine finally made a statement, but fought back with new claims saying "at no point did we say Taylor could not perform on the AMAs or block her Netflix special. In fact, we do not have the right to keep her from performing live anywhere." They also made a direct shot to her saying "Taylor, the narrative you have created does not exist".
Here's the thing I noticed, although they said they couldn't keep her from performing on the AMAs, they didn't mention the actual problem, which was about her not being able to play her old hits... sneaky boys.
If this keeps up, I wonder what it'll do to the label. At the end of the day, I really hope that Taylor actually gets to perform her old hits at the AMA's, because she absolutely deserves to if she's being crowned the Artist of the Decade, and I think we all deserve to celebrate the work. What do you think? Who's side would you be on?
