This is awesome! 15 months ago a 9-year-old North Carolina girl put a message into a bottle and sent it off to sea. It was just recently found by a grandmother walking on an Ireland beach, which means the bottle traveled 3,500 miles from coast to coast! The bottle was a part of a class science project and the message included instructions on how to reach out to the sender.
The young girl, Laura Terry, attends Summit School in Winston-Salem. She and her teacher Susan Schambach were contacted by Irish woman Bridie Patten who said she found Laura's message on Doohoma Beach in Western Ireland back in January.
Schambach told WXII-TV Patten wrote back, "So excited. Laura we got your bottle, we will hang it on the wall." The teacher continued, "And since then I've gotten an email from her daughter and two of her grandchildren and now were starting a correspondence with the children's school."
This is honestly so cool. I think we've all thought about giving the whole "Message in a Bottle" thing a go! Maybe North Carolina's coast is lucky?
