The Gastonia Police Department has released a statement reporting that they've found a body while searching for missing 6-year-old Maddox Ritch.
Hundreds of people have mobilized in Gastonia in the search for the autistic child who went missing on Saturday. The search has involved helicopters, drones, search dogs, and underwater teams.
"At approximately 1 p.m. on September 27, 2018, search crews discovered a body believed to be Maddox Ritch off of Marietta Street/Old Dallas Highway in Gastonia.
Maddox’s parents have been notified of the discovery by law enforcement. Identification of the body will be done by the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office."
A news conference about the ongoing search for Maddox is scheduled to be held at 4 p.m. today at the Greater Gaston Baptist Association, 1607 Rankin Lake Road, Gastonia.
The FBI was offering a $10,000 reward for any information that could help them locate the boy.
