Sales Of Music May Reach $10 Billion In 2019. That Last Happened In 2007.

According to cultr.com, retail music, that is the sale of music by streaming and physical unit sales, is on the brink of doing something that hasn’t been done since 2007 - hit $10 billion in sales! During the first half of 2019, the sale and streaming of music was up by 18%, which generated sales of $5.4 billion.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), streaming accounted for 80% of the sales growth. Digital downloads and physical sales of vinyl and CDs accounted for 9% each of the sales growth. Synch generated 2% to the growth figures.

As such, after a few bumpy years where streaming was beginning to take hold, it appears that sales for the music industry are beginning to rebound. Furthermore, with streaming showing no signs of slowing down, it appears the music industry can look forward to more productive years in the future.
