Salmon Were Swimming Across A Road?

We all know that salmon swim upstream when it is time to spawn. However, have they ever swam across a highway before? Well in the town of Shelton, Washington they did!

The creeks along the Skokomish River sometimes overrun and can flood the roads nearby. In this case, Highway 101 in the Shelton area was flooded and drivers were surprised to see salmon swimming across the highway!

According to Alexis Leonard, a fish hatchery specialist, the salmon come from the Skokomish River during the spawning season and sometimes end up on flooded roads. “If they’re lucky, it’ll meet up with the creek on the other side of the road,” Leonard said. “If they’re not, they’re stranded.”  Interesting!
