A popular canned food product has been recalled from several states, including North Carolina, over a significant health risk it poses for certain consumers.
Vietti Food Group has issued a recall for 4,515 cases of its Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans after a mislabeling error resulted in soy not being declared on the packaging, according to a recall notice shared May 5 by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. This could put at risk consumers who have an allergy or sensitivity to the ingredient as it could result in "serious or life-threatening allergic reactions."
The product, sold in 15 ounce cans, features a Best If Used By date of Feb 17, 2028, located on the bottom of the can. The beans were distributed through retailers in over a dozen states, including: Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
As of May 2, there have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions in connection to the recall. However, consumers are still urged to return the affected product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
