Fans of Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears know the two pop stars have a long history together. After coming up in the music industry together more than two decades ago, Aguilera is thrilled to see her old Mickey Mouse Club co-star regain control of her own life.

When asked if she's spoken with Spears since her conservatorship came to an end during a recent interview with Enrique Santos about her Spanish language album, Aguilera said she wants to be "careful" while discussing the subject because she'd "never want to speak out of turn" about such a serious issue. She went on to say she has "so much respect and admiration" for her pop music contemporary.

"I couldn't be happier for her," Aguilera added. "Every woman deserves to feel empowered and to own that for themselves however they see fit."

"Growing up in this business can be crazy. If anybody gets that and understands what that means at that time coming up, it definitely would be her and I, so, I will always be here to reach out to," she said. "I love being able to connect like that with other women. It's very important now more than ever, now that we have the ability to connect, that that happens and we always feel unified."

Back in November, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny terminated Spears' thirteen-year conservatorship after the pop star alleged she suffered serious abuse by her conservator, her father Jamie Spears. The conservatorship first began back in 2008 after the singer was placed under two involuntary 5150 psychiatric holds. About a month later, her father petitioned for an emergency "temporary conservatorship," a legal restraint that is typically meant for people with mental disabilities. He claimed that she had a "dementia-related illness" in court documents.

The 'Toxic' singer continued to work under the conservatorship for over a decade, releasing multiple albums, making TV appearances and maintaining a lengthy Las Vegas residency. As the conservatorship went on, the 'Circus' singer dedicated fanbase began to suspect something was amiss, especially after she announced an indefinite hiatus from her music. Shortly after, the #FreeBritney movement was born.

Aguilera is just one of Spears' pop music peers to speak out in support. Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, the Backstreet Boys, Miley Cyrus and more have all spoken out in her defense as she fought to end her conservatorship over the past few years.
