Police Offer Update On Naya Rivera Search After Checking Lake Cabins

Authorities continued their search for Naya Rivera on Sunday (July 12) as officials revealed they'd be searching the cabins around Lake Piru, where she and her 4-year-old son were last seen.

As you know, the Glee alum, 33, took her son, Josey, on a boat and never returned back to the dock. Josey, on the other hand, was discovered alone in the craft hours after the pair's scheduled return time. "In today’s search for Naya Rivera, cabins and outbuildings in the surrounding area will be checked once again, as well as the shoreline," Ventura County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Shannon King told PEOPLE. "This has been part of the ongoing search effort since her disappearance on Wednesday afternoon. Boat crews continue to scan the lake."

Unfortunately, the search was unsuccessful as an official confirmed that "nothing came of it." “They were just doing the shoreline to make sure nothing has changed. There were a lot of folks that were talking on social media about, 'Oh, check the cabins. Maybe she’s there, maybe she's hanging out,'" one official said, adding the team "did go to a couple of the cabins that were on the north end of the lake, that’s all that’s out there, and nothing came of it."

While Rivera has been presumed dead, it's become more and more convincing that Rivera never left the water, as per authorities. "It appears to be 100 percent just a tragic drowning," King added. It's worth noting that Lake Piru has made the hunt difficult as it's a "murkey, cold lake water." "The ground is covered in trees and shrubs, so it’s hampering our efforts for sure. So they have to go very slowly, so when they see the sonar vision coming back on their screen, the slower they go, the clearer it is," she continued. “The faster they go, the more elongated it becomes and harder to tell."
